HOME IN CORFU, AT AMMOUDIA MAISONETTES
What’s your ideal holiday? For me the last vacation was a beautiful surprise and a pleasant lesson in equal measure. I learned to enjoy peace and allow myself to relax away from all the city rush, in a nice Greek village in Corfu. We decided to return to the Greek island four years after our first vacation there. We traveled from Bucharest by car and after 1030 kilometers and one hour on the ferry boat we arrived in Acharavi, Almyros. There was our house for the next eight days, Ammoudia Maisonettes. It is a complex made of 10 villas with one or two bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen. The villas are located right on the beach and surrounded by a nice green garden. As soon as we arrived at Ammoudia Maisonettes (https://www.ammoudiamaisonettes.com/) we were greeted by Mr. George, the owner of the complex, a very kind man who led us to our villa and made sure we had everything need for a pleasant vacation.
Our villa had a fully equipped kitchen for self-catering, a spacious bedroom, a bathroom and a terrace downstairs and upstairs there was another large bedroom with its own bathroom and balcony. We shared the villa with our friends, they took the downstairs bedroom and we choose the upstairs one. I really enjoyed the fact that everything was impeccable, from the sheets and towels to the plates and everything that was in the kitchen. The housekeeper came daily and did a great job. Another big plus was the bed, which is extremely comfortable. I had the feeling I was sleeping on a fluffy cloud.
Two steps away from the villa is the sea. The beach is large, it has fine sand, is not crowded, and the water is turquoise, clear and warm.
If you ask me what I liked most about this place, the answer is simple. The silence and the sensation that time stood still and let me do whatever I want. I called this article “Home in Corfu, at Ammoudia Maisonettes” because for the first time I felt at home, although I was away from home. I didn’t had a schedule on this holiday and I didn’t hurry anywhere. I slept like a baby and woke up when I had enough sleep. I had breakfast in the villa’s kitchen since my husband and our friend filled the fridge with all kind of tasty goodies from Acharavi’s supermarkets. Then I went to the beach and enjoyed the sun, the sand and the sea. There I saw some of the most beautiful sunsets that I watched sitting on a lounger or swimming in the sea. Then I welcomed the night from our villa’s terrace with a glass of rose wine and I enjoyed the sound of the waves.
Let me tell you how we did with the food. For breakfast, snacks and dinner we bought everything we needed from the village supermarkets. Acharavi is filled with all kind of shops, taverns, restaurants and gelaterie, so we could eat every time in a different place, but we found a tavern near Ammoudia Maisonettes. It is called Village Taverna George and has been providing tourists and locals with good food since 1980. George, the owner, welcomes you and takes your order, his son and daughter serve you with the finest Greek dishes cooked by their mother. We had lunch here every day and tried everything on the menu. From souvlaki to seafood or pasta, from moussaka, to fish and dessert, everything was a 10 plus.
If you want to get out of the village, the island is great and has plenty of tourist attractions. This time, we chose to go only to Corfu town, but you can visit also Sisi’s Palace, Canal D’Amour or the Ghost Village. In addition, from Acharavi ‘s travel agencies you can buy one-day cruises on Paxos island or a well organized tours of Corfu.
